Properties and Particle Sizes Rubber and Vitrocote Additives & Uses

In the current style environment, where there is an emphasis to generate more cost effective coatings in combination with the desire to recycle materials where possible, Bead Brite has introduced to the market place a series of optical enhancers and pigment additives. These materials when formulated into coatings not only give unique color and appearance effects, but also lower overall raw material contribution costs. In addition, the recycled glass and rubber products are qualified under the United States Federal Executive Order for Recycling and may qualify for federal tax credits.

RUBBER
XR200, LR400, O2XR, BR400, E8850, SR400, GR400, OWR400, RR400, YR400
200 mesh pulverized recycled cured butyl nitrile rubber. Provides texture and soft touch tactile properties.. Provides abrasion resistance and enhanced durability when formulated with glass mirrors and beads. Works best when pre-dispersed at a 40-50% pigment loading and let down to the final concentration in the coating. Builds viscosity. Best when applied in several coats to build film thickness. Usually applied at relatively high film thickness (2-3 mils). Can be combined with coarse aluminum, special effect and organic pigments to generate unique colors.

VITROCOTE
10, 20

Unique naturally occurring amorphous aluminosilicate mineral that acts as an optical spacer when formulated into coatings, enhancing their depth of image, brilliance and luster. Equally effective with conventional organic or inorganic pigments to improve flow and color saturation at reduced pigment loading. Suitable for high-reduced pigment loading. When used in combination with mirrors, glass chips, special effect and aluminum flake pigments, acts to regulate particle orientation for maximum visual benefit. Imparts heat and impact resistance. Works best when pre-dispersed into the vehicle using a vertical or horizontal mill vs. high-speed dispersion. Usually formulated at 1-2% by weight. Particle size before milling 10 microns or less.

COST CONTRIBUTION

Effect pigments are, by their nature, typically more expensive than the conventional colorants with which they are used. By providing this range of Helicone HC pigments and Bead Brite additives, Bead Brite has created a formulation space in which the synergy of these materials allows for significantly reduced costs while developing new and unique appearance and performance characteristics. Rather than having to rely on color development strictly from the pigment itself, the appropriate use of the additive line can allow for greater color impact due to reflectivity, particle spacing, etc.

SUMMARY
The emergence of Helicone HC pigments and Bead Brite additives truly allow the formulator access to the next generation of color development technology, regardless of the intended application. With the ability to develop their appearance within the limits of conventional application conditions and at reasonable cost, Helicone HC pigments and Bead Brite additives open the door to dramatic improvements in performance and appearance unmatched by other available chemistries.

Glass Flake, Mirror Flake & Glass Bead Additives

CHROM BRITE
CB 5000, CB4500, CB4000CB2300, CB160, CB100,
Mirrorized recycled random geometry glass chips, which provide reflectivity, and opacity when formulated into coatings. Incorporation allows for improved spot repairability of the cured film. Can be used alone or in combination with Helicone pigments, aluminum or other special effect pigments to improve the visual appearance by geometric diffusion and magnification of more costly effect pigments. Also impart brilliance, depth of image, UV screening capability, color travel and pattern control. Range of available particle sizes allows flexibility in the degree of brilliance and sparkle in the finished formulation. CB4000 1-13um, CB4500 1-45um and CB100 1-100um. Compatible in water borne coatings. Lower overall raw material cost contribution and VOC’s. Require high-speed dispersion to be properly incorporated into the vehicle system.

CLEAR GLASS
CG13

The basis for our numerous products comes from the raw material glass in different chemical compositions with their correspondent physical characteristics. It emanates from technical processes during which glass is generated or manipulated. The product range varies from glass powder with a grain size of a couple of micrometers to glass granules of several centimetres. In a special grinding process the glass materials are carefully crushed allowing a mostly cubic shape of the particles. The grading technique used in the process guarantees an effective separation of grains defining both a lower and an upper limit. Thanks to highly flexible production lines, custom size solutions for our clients do not pose any problem at all. Variable packing solutions ranging from 4oz jars to silo loads.

Recycled CG13 glass chips with a random geometry. When formulated into industrial or architectural coatings, they impart color, texture, durability, and UV screening capability. Provide a specular appearance with a warm soft glow when formulated into opaque coatings and when formulated into semi-transparent coatings, provide warmth and depth. Improve heat transfer. Low gloss coatings formulated with glass show no or little signs of polish black. Requires high-speed dispersion to be properly incorporated into vehicle system. Particle size 1-13um and 1-13um.

BEADS

MB6, IB45, SB18 , SB25
Spherical extruded glass beads, which provide sheen and texture when formulated into coatings. Imparts "binocular" reflective effects when used with other special effect pigments. Improves mar resistance. Must be pre-dispersed using a sand mill or comparable dispersion process. Compatible in water, solvent and powder coatings. Lowers VOC’s. Particle size 1-6.3um and 1-45um.
