BBR uses patented processes to micronize certain
recyclable materials such as glass, mirrors and rubber, and transforms them into
super-fine ticle additives (down to 5 micron) that create superior end products
and meet exacting standards for diverse applications. The following developments represent Bead Brite
additives for use by the major automotive finish brands and actual market
introduction of new product lines, as well as advanced developmental testing of
new applications in both coatings and vinyl:
2005 SEMA Show
The largest auto specialty show drew 100,000 to
Las Vegas in November where Ford, Chevrolet and the largest domestic auto shops
presented 19 show cars with innovative Planet
Color finishes by Sherwin-Williams Auto Finishes (SWAF) incorporating
Bead Brite additives; Sherwin-Williams: The $500 million
SWAF segment of the $6 billion paint and coatings giant has launched Planet Color, a premium-priced line of
optically enhanced finishes (using Bead Brite Chrome Brite Mirrors, Clear Brite
Glass and Black & Beige Rubber); and 8
Tonz a premium ($500/gallon) high performance line teamed up with Dale Earnhardt Industries (using Bead Brite Chrome Brite Mirrors and Clear Brite Glass). SWAF has
also introduced Dupli-Color (using Bead Brite Black Rubber) Truck Bed Coating spray. We are
awaiting scheduled launch of a line of OEM garage cabinets with new “low gloss”
finishes (using Bead Brite Clear Glass and Beads).
Sandusky Athol International
Sandusky, a long time supplier to major automotive brands, is introducing their Clear Coat 1J line of interior
door vinyl trim for General Motors (using Bead Brite Clear Glass).
CMI Enterprises
This leading
supplier of soft interior products for the automotive industry, including vinyl
for a variety of applications, has approved Beadbrite additives for inclusion in
one of their seven lines.
APV Engineered Coatings
This 126-year-old supplier of a
wide range of products to various industries is developing a vinyl siding line
that incorporates Bead Brite Clear Glass, Chrome Brite Mirrors, and
Beads.

These developments are the direct result of a program conducted by BBR through ongoing contacts with many industry leaders. By offering, and supplying upon request, no-cost samples for testing by the companies or their designated laboratories, BBR takes the lead in focusing prospective customers on the initial stages of product innovations incorporating Bead Brite additives. In addition to current customers, companies who have requested samples and are in various stages of development include Akzo Nobel, Baja Marine, BASF, Behr Paint, DuPont, Ford, Mobern Marine Vinyl, Uniroyal, Wacker Silicones and many others. Such testing is our key to creating short and long term opportunities in a range of industries.
Automotive Finishes: Through Sherwin-Williams, Bead Brite additives enter the Automotive Refinishing category and is working toward selection for a full-run model line (requiring 25 year inventory). In addition to offering these manufacturers a spectacular and unlimited new look for these premium priced automotive finishes, Bead Brite additives offer cost savings by displacing higher cost pigment volumes.
OEM Products: Uses include powder coatings, cars/trucks/SUV, steel, machines & equipment, wood furniture & fixtures, non-wood furniture and fixtures, cargo containers, heavy-duty trucks and buses, automotive parts and others. Bead Brite additives are entering the category through the Sherwin-Williams Chemical Coatings Division in 2007. Ford has also tested Bead Brite additives at its Paint & Body Technical Center. The three-vehicle test found a -30° temperature differential on the body finished with silver paint using Bead Brite additives, indicating significant comfort improvement for passengers and being considered for Ford Military customers.
Vinyl Materials: Applications for Bead Brite additives are part of the big OEM coatings segment, but also fit into the Plastic Products segment in the production of vinyl products, both hard and soft. Bead Brite additives are entering the market through Sandusky-Athol automotive components for General Motors, and CMI Enterprises interior vinyl for various automotive applications, along with APV Engineered Coatings vinyl siding. In Uniroyal testing, Bead Brite-enhanced vinyl far surpassed the 50,000 cycle minimum for GM abrasion standards, running to 1 million cycles and beyond; and thermal tested 20° cooler.
Architectural Coatings: The major category is interior and exterior coatings for homes and buildings. Numerous properties of Bead Brite additives enhance the value of architectural coatings, including visual appeal, thermal reflectivity and durability - while reducing costs from pigment displacement. Our products are developed in close cooperation with suppliers and fulfils the special requirements of the resin processing industry in the areas of mould making, casting resins for the completion of interiors, concrete polymer and surfaces as well as lacquers, paints and adhesives.
Marine Coatings & Materials: Another of the OEM applications which falls under the Special Purpose Category. In outdoor testing of Bead Brite additives in finishes and Gel Coats over a period of 36 months, significantly improved performance was measured in high temperature, U.V. reflection, abrasion resistance and gloss reduction criteria. In discussions with Baja Marine division of Brunswick Corporation, these tests have been submitted for review, along with other testing by Ashland Chemicals and Ford Paint & Body Technology Center. |
